Reading Matthew 26 today.
“And having gone with the guard, they made the tomb secure, having sealed the stone.”
I think about them securing the tomb.
Further securing their failure, their grief, their huge loss. The finality. It was the end…
I imagine Mary Magdalene putting her hand on the stone to make herself feel it with her own flesh: “he has left us” they would say back to her through trembling.
She must have felt so much despair. And this… THIS , is where the God of hope shows up: Where there is no hope. He is not afraid to let you feel despair , so that you can know hope in the deepest way later .
That’s why today as Christians , we all walk to the tomb, placing our hand on the rock through tears, asking, “Can he overcome even this?” We hold our breath, and sit in grief, and wait for Sunday.
